Victorian or Edwardian? - House Style

Victorian or Edwardian? - House Style

Victorian houses were built between 1837 and 1901, when Queen Victoria was on the throne. However some people, including the Victorian Society take ‘Victorian Architecture’ to encompass Edwardian as well, which takes this time period up to 1910. Edward VII Queen Victoria's son was on the throne (1901-1910)
But as history tells us, the spirit of the age is what defines an era, not just the monarch.
Victorian houses often used what is known as Flemish Brick bond, which consists of alternating headers (bricks whose end appears on the face of the wall) and stretchers (bricks whose long side appears on the side of the wall) along each course with the headers centered on the stretchers above and below.
